About Terra Vista Animal Hospital

We understand that your pet is an important member of your family and we want to provide them with the highest quality medical and surgical care possible. Beginning with routine preventive care for your puppies and kittens to treatment for your senior pets, our doctors and staff are committed to providing quality veterinary care throughout the life of your pet. We hope to provide you with the information you need regarding your pet’s health. Working together to keep your pet healthy and help them recover from illness or injury is our primary goal. We are able to perform routine surgeries, orthopedic procedures and dental care on-site, and encourage you to call for a visit.

Payment Policies

We accept cash, personal checks, American Express, Discover, Master Card and Visa. We also offer CareCredit and accept all forms of pet insurance. Payment is due at the time services are rendered.

Our Team

Dr. Michael Weigand, Medical Director

Dr. Michael Weigand graduated from Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986.  Upon moving to California, he worked at Alosta Animal Hospital in Glendora for eight years before opening Terra Vista Animal Hospital in 1994.

Dr. Weigand is a member of the Rancho Cucamonga Chamber of Commerce, the California Veterinary Medical Association and has served as the Secretary on the Board of the Inland Valley Emergency Pet Clinic in Upland since 1998. Always committed to practice excellence, Terra Vista Animal Hospital is an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited practice and the current facility has been recognized as a 2014 Merit Award Winner in the Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Competition.

In his leisure time he enjoys exercising, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends. He and his wife Liz and their two daughters, Madison and Brooke, share their home with their schnauzer, Daisy.

Dr. Elizabeth Bernardini, D.A.B.V.P.

Dr. Bernardini joined the staff of Terra Vista Animal Hospital in March 2011. Born and raised in rural Wisconsin, Dr. Bernardini attended Northwestern University in Chicago and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988. She received a master’s degree from Arizona State University and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001. She holds a specialty certificate from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners.

In her free time, Dr. Bernardini enjoys running, yoga, ice hockey and playing the piano.  

Dr. Meredith May-Apablaza

Dr. Meredith May-Apablaza is a local growing up in the Chino Valley area. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. It was during this time she spent her summers working with Dr. Weigand at Terra Vista Animal Hospital. She attended veterinary school at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Dr. May then pursued a small animal internship, which she completed in September 2012. This internship allowed her to gain invaluable experience in the management of critical emergency cases, as well as the opportunity to work with board-certified internists, surgeons, cardiologists and emergency medicine specialists.

Dr. May returned to Terra Vista Animal Hospital in 2012 as an associate veterinarian. Dr. May cherishes the ability to develop and foster the human-animal bond, working with families to provide high quality care for their pets.

Dr. May-Apablaza lives in Rancho Cucamonga with her husband and two daughters. They have a full house with 4 dogs: Daisy (terrier/Chihuahua mix), Joaquin (cocker/poodle mix), Decoy (African Greyhound), and Gracie (Labrador Retriever). They also often rescue exotic animals including Bearded Dragons and Hedgehogs. The family enjoys running, hiking, and fly-fishing together. Dr. May unwinds with cooking and reading a good book.

Dr. Kelly Shearer

Dr. Shearer joined the Terra Vista staff in July 2017.  With both an undergraduate degree in Biology and a Masters in Biological Sciences from Auburn University in Alabama, she moved to California in 2012 to attend Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2016.  She is a member of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Shearer has two rescue dogs, Dolly, a Chihuahua mix, and Mitch, a black Lab, along with two cats, Merkelson and Skye, and a horse named Jack.  A Thoroughbred off the race track, Jack was retrained for jumping and competed with Dr. Shearer for many years but is now simply enjoying his retirement!  In her free time, Dr. Shearer enjoys fishing with her dad, hanging out with friends, going to concerts, traveling and anything pet related.  

Dr. Hana Krauss

Dr. Hana Krauss graduated from Western University of Health Sciences. She takes pride in communicating with clients to find solutions for treatment of their pet’s unique needs and constantly researching for new treatment and answers to clients growing questions.

In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, running, and just generally being outside. She also likes spending time with her family and friends and her rabbit, Mimsy.

Dr. Emma Bird

Dr. Emma Bird graduated from Western University of Health Sciences in 2019. She prides herself in great communication and strives to see each pet as if they were her own. She has a special interest in soft tissue surgery as well.

In her downtime, she enjoys going to concerts, being active outside and in the gym. She also likes spending time with her family and friends including her five four-legged children.
